Ludhiana, September 16

A 29-year-old, who was having an affair with a married woman, was found dead in a canal in Dakha. After the incident, Tibba police registered a case of incitement to suicide against a man with whom the deceased’s wife had had an affair. The family of the deceased suspected that their son had committed suicide due to allegations of torture by the woman’s husband.

The deceased has been identified as Nitin Soni, a resident of New Shashtri Nagar. The suspect has been identified as Baljit Singh, a resident of HIG Flats, Moti Nagar.

The deceased’s father, Subash Chandar, told police that on September 5 his son left the house saying he had been awarded a contract to install tiles at a location in Phillaur. “That same day at around 4 pm my son called and told me to speak to Baljit Singh by phone. Baljit told me that my son was having an affair with his wife and that he had already filed a complaint with the Moti Nagar Police Station. He asked me to discourage my son from continuing his affair with his wife, ”Subash said. “After September 5, my son did not return home for three days. On September 8, a complaint for the disappearance of my son was filed at the Tibba police station, ”he added.

On the same day, the Dakha police called Subash and informed that his son’s motorcycle was lying near the canal in Dakha. Divers were called in to locate her son’s body, but to no avail. Later, on September 14, her son’s body was found floating in the Dakha Canal.

Subash alleged that his son committed suicide as a result of Baljit’s alleged harassment. “It looked like my sob jumped into the canal and committed suicide,” he added. Investigating Officer ASI Jora Singh said: “A raid is underway to catch the suspect.” The boy left no suicide note, ASI added. – TNS
