Young bike worker dies in hit-and-run, KNEWS
Law enforcement is asking for the public’s help after a young man on a bicycle was killed in a hit-and-run in Nicosia, just outside the Cyprus Police compound.
Local media said Mihai Cristian Rosu, a 25-year-old Romanian national, was involved in a traffic accident early Saturday morning, when he was killed at the scene after a car hit him by behind.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. on RIK Avenue, where an unknown vehicle traveling east hit the bike from behind outside the Cyprus Police Academy, just opposite from the police car repair shop and a short distance from the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation.
Local media described the collision as violent. According to reports, an ambulance then transported the victim to Nicosia General Hospital, where Rosu was pronounced dead on arrival.
Nicosia Traffic Supervisor Stelios Panagides said preliminary findings suggested the color of the vehicle in question was black, with investigators looking for security camera footage to gather more information.
Police are also calling on members of the public, who may know anything about the hit and run, to come forward by calling Nicosia Traffic Police on 22.802.023, dialing 1460 Citizen’s Hotline or contacting the police station the closest.
It is believed that Rosu, known to his friends by his middle name Cristian, went to work at a local fruit market in Aglandjia.
