What to know about Indy’s free Safe Summer Kids program

No registration is required for Friday night events, but registration is encouraged for Saturday night events.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indy Parks is hosting free events for kids on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the summer.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, the Office of Public Health and Safety, Indy Parks and community partners announced safe summer programs for children designed to provide safe and meaningful spaces to spend their time .

“From regular recreation in a park, to free pool access, to today’s announcement of a safe summer, there are countless opportunities for parents and our young people over the coming months. “, said Hogsett. “This summer, every child has a place to go and have fun, day and night.”

Events for teens ages 13-18 will take place on Friday evenings from June 5 to August 5 at the following locations and times:

  • Riverside Park: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Garfield Park: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Washington Park: 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Activities include “cookies and the web”, photography and videography, and boxing.

Children ages 9-17 can participate in non-traditional sports at Brookside Park every Saturday, June 11-July 30, 6-8 p.m. Highly trained facilitators will teach children sports skills, such as water sports, track and field, and lacrosse. Freewheelin’ Bikes will also teach bike safety and provide safe bike rides.

“Safe Summer is about giving kids the chance to be kids. We not only want to keep kids out of trouble, but we also want to give them access to people who are mentors,” the OPHS director said. , Lauren Rodriguez. “We want to give them access to new experiences and creative outlets that they might not otherwise have access to.”

All summer safety events are free. No registration is required for Friday night events, but registration is encouraged for Saturday night events. Parents can register their children at the Brookside Park Family Center, the Indy Parks Customer Service Office in Riverside Park, or any of the Indy Parks facilities.
