Spoke and AWS Collaborate to Save Lives of Cyclists, Motorcyclists, Scooters and Other Mobility Users
Spoke connects vehicle and bicycle OEMs directly to their vulnerable road user customers with industry-leading C-V2X (all-vehicle) and modem-based technologies.
DENVER and TURIN from Italy, September 30, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Spoke, a mobility platform for safety and rich driving experiences, today announced a strategic relationship with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deliver one-of-a-kind connectivity to cyclists, motorcyclists , scooter riders and other mobility users on the roadway, making sure they are âseenâ by cars and can âseeâ vehicles and drivers around them.
Spoke and AWS are working together to save lives by ensuring that vulnerable road users are âseenâ by vehicles around them.
Spoke uses Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) direct communication, a technology for safety and mobility applications that provides drivers with instant and highly accurate alerts 10 times per second from their vehicles, so they can act and avoid accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), in 2019, there were approximately 47,000 cyclists and 84,000 motorcyclists injured with nearly 6,000 drivers killed in motor vehicle crashes on public roads in United States. The C-V2X could reduce the number and severity of accidents without problems by up to 80%. For example, drivers could be warned that a cyclist is in their blind spot when turning right, or cyclists could be warned that a vehicle is passing another vehicle and entering their lane.
âWhen building C-V2X solutions, the industry often leaves the most vulnerable road users (VRUs) out of the equation,â said Jarrett wendt, spoke of the CEO. âThe Spoke hardware and software suite is a one-of-a-kind connected system that provides secure, direct communication for contextual awareness and alerts between drivers and passengers. When we talk about saving lives, there could be no partner other than AWS to provide the cutting edge services, speed and reliability that will enable us to deliver what we call “the road user vulnerable to road use.” all â, or VRU2X â¢. “
AWS services deliver the speed, scalability, and security Spoke needs to deliver deeper, more personalized safety and driving guidance to its users, including real-time data ingestion and in-flight analytics. continuous for VRU2X security and connectivity data, as well as machine learning and AI services.
âBy leveraging AWS, Spoke Safety has the performance, scalability and breadth of services they need to create a mobility platform that keeps everyone safe on our roads,â said Bill Foy, Director of Global Automotive Solutions, AWS. âWe look forward to helping them bring this unique offering to market and grow their business for years to come across all devices and use cases. “
AWS will also feed a global data repository connecting bicycle manufacturers and other light mobility original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with their consumers. The Spoke software portfolio allows OEMs and consumers to customize the combination of user functionality. Applications such as VRU2X ⢠traffic notifications, safer route navigation, safety services, and driving, health and fitness experiences can be accessed via a smartphone or the Spoke screen through the app. Spoke Safety (grouped together in safety functions + driving enrichment functions). The display, along with Spoke’s VRU-sized connected hardware, cameras and lights, complete a transportation ecosystem that literally puts cyclists, motorcyclists and other light mobility users on the map.
Spoke works with a number of stakeholders, including Qualcomm Technologies and vehicle, bicycle, scooter and motorcycle OEMs, for maximum scale, adoption and safety impact. The Spoke portfolio will be launched with OEM partners for bicycles, motorcycles and scooters in 2022.
âAs industry-leading innovators and developers of award-winning and transformative software, infotainment and mobility hardware, we knew it was time to simply and stylishly include our road users. most vulnerable in the intelligent transport ecosystem and build our connection to each other. The Spoke and AWS collaboration makes it all possible. AWS allows us to scale quickly and scale, which is fundamental to unlocking direct digital communication that connects all users anonymously to each other, to intelligent infrastructure and to OEMs, ânoted Wendt.
