Oakley woman convicted of child abuse now faces 4 sexual assault charges
OAKLEY, MI – Imprisoned last year for turning a blind eye to the sexual assault of two girls by her husband, a woman from Oakley now faces charges that could lead to her life in prison.
Dhiannah E. Dunagan, 42, on Tuesday, May 26, was arrested by Michigan State Police soldiers on a warrant that authorities issued the same day. The next day, she appeared in Saginaw County District Court on four counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a relationship.
The impeachment judge denied the granting of Dunagan bail.
The charges stem from prosecutors alleging Dunagan sexually assaulted a girl between 2015 and 2017.
Dunagan in March 2019 – then under the surname Fawcett – was sentenced to one year in prison with credit for two days served after pleading guilty to one count of fourth degree child abuse. In return, prosecutors dismissed a 10-year count of second-degree child abuse.
The allegations at the time were that Dunagan’s husband, Brian B. Fawcett, sexually assaulted two girls who had been linked to him for several years. The two girls testified in a preliminary examination in July 2018, one saying the violence started when she was 15, the other at 12.
The younger of the two girls testified that she told Dunagan what happened, but did nothing about it, which led to the initial charge of child abuse in Dunagan. .
Fawcett did not dispute the nine counts he faced – six counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a relationship, two counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct, and one count of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct. In September 2019, Saginaw County Circuit Judge Manvel Trice III sentenced Fawcett to nine concurrent terms, the longest being five terms ranging from 35 to 70 years. Trice also sentenced Fawcett to two terms of 20 to 30 years and one each of 22 to 60 years and two to four years.
Since then, prosecutors allege that further investigation revealed that Dunagan herself sexually assaulted one of the two girls.
Dunagan’s next court date is pending.
Fawcett is currently incarcerated at G. Robert Cotton Correctional Institution in Jackson. Its closest possible release date is April 17, 2053.
