Recently, the basikal lajak (modified bicycle) case has attracted a lot of attention on the Internet and sparked a lot of discussion among netizens. In a series of videos Posted by Facebook user Fareez Aiman on the DashCam Owners Malaysia group yesterday, electric scooter riders have also raised concerns among netizens over their unsafe use of the road.

In the videos featured, many are seen riding the electric scooters freely and dangerously on the road. Some cyclists have even been shown to ride in the fast lane or ride with children.

“It is worrying to see them riding electric scooters in the crowds on the road. The cars and motorbikes near Cyberjaya are speeding. There is already no protection. Enough with the lajak bike case. Don’t be a case of electric scooter after that. Play in the right place! says the caption.

This is because e-scooter riders don’t have any protective gear like helmets or seat belts, unlike car and motorcycle riders. The post has received 1,000 reactions, over 400 comments and 3,300 shares at the time of writing.

According to feedback, electric scooter riders are advised to ride the vehicle in the right place, such as the garden or a large enclosed area. The Department of Transport is also urged to impose new rules and regulations regarding the issue, such as imposing bans or creating a scooter lane.

Whatever vehicles we use on the road, we must be vigilant at all times. Hopefully e-scooter riders can put everyone’s safety first by thinking twice before hitting the road.
