The Pico district is steeped in history and beloved local institutions. Over the next year, neighborhood streets are the accent of our in progress transport ssecurity Iimprovement pprojects. Each project was designed to improve your possibility to visit in complete safety your preferred destinations without the use of a personal vehicle. That you are outside for your daily walk, Cycling To school at Edison’s, or meet friends for tacos, everyone deserved the opportunity to without issue walking and cycling through their neighborhood to reach their destination.

Pedestrian Crossing Improvements

Pico Boulevard is a wide, quick street, who makes difficult crossing on foot. Crossings improvements at five intersections near Santa Monica VSmiddle School will add new accessible pedestrian ramps, sidewalk extensions, signal enhancements, and more. Construction should begin this winter, until summer 2022.

More opportunities to get involved the Street design are too come your way. Stay tuned for meetings on security upgrades to east Pico Boulevard.

Protected cycle path connections

When it’s too far to walk cycling is the next best thing. Major improvements arrive at 17e and Stewart Strees including protected cycle paths, pedestrian lighting, and intersection improvements. Tthese facilities go create pico connections Boulevard To other cycling facilities including Broadway, Green Lane in the Michigan Avenue neighborhood, and Exposure Cycle path. Build safe cycling facilities is essential for to givee residents without vehicle access to destinations like the Santa Monica College Center for Media Design, Edison Language Academy, Light rail stations, parks, daycare, employment centers, and more.

Construction of improvements on 17e Street began in October 2021 and construction on Stewart Street is slated for Winter 2023.

Safe routes to school

Infrastructure improvements offered for Edison Language Academy will improve the safety and comfort of journeys to and from school. Collaboration between SMMUSD, school staff, parents, caregivers and municipal engineers have come up with new recommendations for street redesign and safety treatments. Construction is planned to start in Winter 2023.
