Smiling for the camera on a summer evening, they look like a typical happy family.

But the photo, which was taken to mark the departure of two of Ewan McGregor’s daughters from college, came on the same day the Hollywood actor was ordered to hand over a tantalizing sum of his fortune – and of his future income – to his ex-wife. Eve Mavrakis.

Following the couple’s acrimonious split, a California judge ruled that the 49-year-old actor – who dated his Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead after his marriage ended in 2017 – will have to hand over half of the royalties he made from staring in four Star Wars films.

Yesterday it also emerged that production designer Ms Mavrakis will keep the family’s £ 5million Los Angeles home, along with around £ 400,000 in cash, jewelry and five of the 34 cars in the collection. by McGregor, which includes his beloved vintage blue Volkswagen Beetle. .

Ms Mavrakis, 53, is also said to be receiving child support of around £ 12,000 per month and £ 30,000 in spousal payments, as well as some of the royalties McGregor made on the Angels And Demons films, The Men Who Stare At Goats and Moulin Rouge.

The couple will share joint legal and physical custody of their youngest daughter, Nine-year-old Anouk.

McGregor filed for divorce in 2018, with documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that year revealing that he and Ms Mavrakis were already locked in a money dispute.

Newspapers showed the Trainspotting star believed he was paying more than he was obligated to pay to support his family, while Ms Mavrakis – who called the split “disappointing and upsetting” – believed that the amount was too low.

However, on Friday, as their divorce after 22 years of marriage was finalized, the couple put their differences aside to throw a party for daughters Esther and Jamyan – the child they adopted in Mongolia – to celebrate them in university.

The photos, which were posted to Instagram by their older sister Clara, 24, were accompanied by the message: “My little beans are gone to college, I’m so proud of you two. Our little family.

The couple, who met on the set of the television crime series Kavanagh QC, first confirmed their split in 2017 when McGregor was seen kissing Miss Winstead, 35, at a London restaurant .

Ms Mavrakis was pictured without her wedding ring around the same time.

McGregor – who blamed the “irreconcilable differences” for the split – then began dating Miss Winstead. However, his decision to do so infuriated the couple’s eldest daughter, Clara.

Last July, she described the actress as “junk” on Instagram, which accompanied a photo of her father and Miss Winstead kissing at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in 2014.

Clara, an aspiring actress, later said: “It wasn’t the most mature way to go about it, but I was angry and upset.”

According to Clara, things were going on behind the scenes that became “a lot of stuff to deal with” and ultimately sent her over the edge.

“There had been a lot of preparation and a lot of stuff to deal with – not making excuses or anything – but, yeah, it wasn’t my best time,” she admitted.
