World Bike Day hopes to strengthen the common cycling culture of the Philippines and the European Union.

To mark World Bike Day, the European Union (EU) Delegation to the Philippines, the Department of Transportation, SM Malls and the Firefly Brigade collaborated to strengthen the common cycling culture of the Philippines and the European Union.

“With our partners, we recognize the versatility of the bicycle, its reliability and its sustainable means of transport that respect the environment”, said EU Ambassador Luc Véron.

Cycling in Europe has become part of its culture, a sustainable mode of transport and an efficient way to achieve the EU target of reducing emissions by at least 40% by 2030.

The Philippines pledged in the Paris Agreement to reduce carbon emissions by 75%, a goal achievable through government efforts, including promoting sustainable transportation and cycling.

“From experience, because I used my bike to work when I was in Europe, I can say that cycling combines several advantages: it is cheap, non-polluting and healthy. Through this partnership, we want to express our enthusiasm and our support to the Filipino community in our common effort to integrate cycling into our lifestyles, ”said Ambassador Luc Véron.

Safety is essential on a bicycle. This is one of the main reasons for our flagship project “Salubungan sa SM: Sama-Sama sa bike safety” which will organize several bicycle clinics focused on safety measures for our cyclists during the cycling packing tour of 1,300 kilometers of the Firefly Brigade in 12 cities of Luzon. .
