Emirates News Agency – UAE cyclists to compete in 2nd edition of ‘First Group 7 Emirates Cycle Challenge’

DUBAI, 8th November, 2022 (WAM) — The first Group 7 Emirates Cycle Challenge returns this year with 20 cyclists from the United Arab Emirates registered to ride 550km over four days from November 10th to 13th, to raise awareness and funds for the child protection and education support programs in partnership with Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) and the Rashid Center for People of Determination.
The Cycle Challenge is part of The First Group’s flagship ‘Enriching Young Lives’ program aimed at improving the lives of disadvantaged children and young people around the world by providing access to world-class early educational and emotional support and opportunities that would otherwise be denied.
The Cycle Challenge was launched in December 2021 to celebrate the UAE’s Golden Jubilee and raise awareness and support for the Rashid Center for People of Determination, which provides children and young adults with a hands-on learning environment and vocational training .
This year, the initiative will continue to support the center, while raising awareness and funds for Dubai Cares’ early childhood development programs globally, which provide children with access to quality education and learning opportunities that will give them equal chances in life.
The ride will be driven by C-suite executives and entrepreneurs from across the UAE, who will be led by elite and professional cyclists Sánchez “Samu” Samuel, a former Spanish professional road cyclist; Vitor Carvalho, retired professional cyclist and former member of the UAE National Olympic Cycling Committee; Janez “Jani” Brajkovič, Slovenian rider who finished ninth in the Tour de France in 2012 and more recently raced for Adria Mobil; and Nelson Oliveira, Portuguese professional cyclist who currently rides for the UCI WorldTeam Movistar team.
